We believe a 4 sided grater like this one is a must have for any kitchen. There are 2 sided graters and even graters that fold up for tighter storage. But, in our opinion the sturdy 4 sided grater is the way to go. Graters with four sides usually have a side for coarse grating, medium grating, fine grating or zesting and the fourth side being a slicer. What makes the 4-sided grater our top pick for grating is the fact that you can set it on the counter and with a little pressure on the top handle it provides a very stable utensil for shredding cheese. We find that with the other styles of graters it’s difficult to securely and safely grate a stiff block of cheese. The smaller 2 sided and foldable style graters make it difficult to keep them from sliding around on the counter. This, of coarse, makes for a dangerous opportunity for slipping and cutting yourself on one of the very sharp grating edges.
